Snow Lens Guide: Choosing the Right Sweet Protection Goggle Lens

When you're carving turns or tracking hidden lines in the snow, what you see—and how clearly you see it—is everything. Our Sweet Protection Lens Guide is here to help you cut through the confusion and pick the best goggle lens for your riding conditions.

RIG® Lens Technology: What Sets It Apart

To start – let’s break down what RIG Lens Technology actually is. Sweet’s proprietary RIG® (Retina Illumination Grading) technology was engineered with alpine riders in mind. Developed in Norway to handle the most unforgiving of light conditions, RIG® lenses deliver:

  • Crystal‑clear contrast enhanced vision
  • Accurate colour balance
  • Reduce eye fatigue

What Really Matters: VLT & Lens Category

Whilst it’s easy to be attracted solely to the lens colour—what determines performance is how much light transmits through to your eyes:

  • VLT (Visible Light Transmission) measures light let-in.
  • Lens categories (S1–S4) relate directly to VLT levels

Here’s the sweet spot:

  • High VLT (≈ 50–75%) = ideal for flat light and snowy conditions.
  • Low VLT (≈ 4–12%) = perfect for bright sun and glare.
  • Mid-range VLT (20–25%) = all‑rounders like Bixbite

 What Lens Should You Own?

If you’re an regular on the slopes, we strongly recommend owning two to three lenses to be ready for rapidly changing conditions:

1.    Low-light or flat conditions lens

2.    Bright sunny day lens

3.    Versatile all-round lens (e.g. Bixbite )

If you only want one, Bixbite is an excellent starting point—just remember no single lens performs perfectly in both extremes.

Choosing by Riding Style

Your lens setup should reflect how and when you ride:

  • Daytime resort cruising → consider brighter-optimised lenses.
  • Backcountry and long tours → keep a flatter‑light lens on standby.
  • Frequent multi-condition days? Build a lens kit.
