Hometown: Arrowtown New Zealand, Skiing at the Remarkables

Skiing Disciplines: Freeride Skiier

How did you first get into free ride skiing? Skiing has been a huge passion of mine ever since I first got on skis at just two years old. I got into freeride skiing when I was around seven, joining the Freeride World Tour Academy at The Remarkables. In my fourth year with the program, I had the opportunity to be coached by Fynn Powell, who I believe is one of the best freeride skiers ever. His coaching had a massive impact on both my love for freeride and my passion for the sport as a whole. Freeriding became a place where I could truly be myself and feel connected to an amazing community, and since then my passion for it has only continued to grow.

What does a typical training day look like for you in the NZ season?

I’m up and at it around 7:30am so I can get to training early and be ready for warm-up by 8:45. After gearing and booting up, we head out onto the snow for a few hours of training before coming inside to refuel and recharge for the afternoon session. We usually finish skiing around 3pm, then head home after a full day on the mountain.

Where is your favourite place to ski - near or far!

I’d have to say my home mountain, The Remarkables, is my absolute go to because of so many things, the community atmosphere, the snow, the freeride terrain, the park, and especially the people all make it such an incredible place to ski. I’d also love to mention the amazing opportunity I had to ski in Myoko during the New Zealand off-season. It was such a breathtaking experience and definitely one of my favourite ski trips ever.

Any big goals or ambitions for the year?

My biggest goal and ambition this year is to qualify for the Junior Freeride World Tour and travel to Europe to compete. This has been a huge dream of mine ever since I started freeride skiing at around eight years old, and I’m determined to keep working as hard as I can to make it happen.

Away from the skifields, what would we find you doing in your spare time?

A lot of my free time is spent in the gym building strength and endurance for the ski season. I also spend time at SITE on the trampolines, working on my air awareness and getting my tricks dialled in before taking them onto skis. Outside of skiing and training, I spend a lot of time with my family and friends, which is something alongside skiing that’s really important to me.

What Sweet Protection kit is your go-to this season and why?

I’d have to say my favourite piece of Sweet Protection gear is definitely the Looper Mips Helmet. Not only does it look epic as part of my kit, but it also keeps my head warm while giving me the confidence and protection I need when I’m skiing gnarly terrain and trying new tricks.
